In all likelihood, yes.

But the only person who can advise you on exacttly what does and does not require LBC on your property is your conservation officer. Far better to arrange a discussion with them.

But in general (and I am sure that our resident CO's will clarify much better than I can)....anything other than the most minor like for like repair is worth running past your CO.....(especially if (and I cast no aspersions here), you are new to period properties).

Once you have had a couple of conversations with your CO, he/she may well advise you on what sort of things they would want you to discuss with them and what sort of changes require no consent. NB - This will differ from one CO to the next and CO's change....so I would advise a follow-up letter confirming your understanding of the conversation....this helps both sides ensure you have a common understanding.

And while we're at it - I've noticed some confusion about its v it's. I can see the logic of the apostrophe when it's an abbreviation (of 'it is'), but it just seems odd when it's used for a possessive (the cat ate its food).
I'd be most grateful if someone could clear this up for me.

Well - anapostrophe when yoused thus "the cat's food" means the food that is the c ats. When "isn't" means word abreviated. But when put after a noun with the added 's' then always it means 'belonging to'. Of course I went to school when all this was taught, I believe it is not now. I expect I'll (not I will) get lots of corrections here. But a nice diversion from listed buildings. B.

All the cat's round here eat partridge- is WRONG (please don't use apostrophes for plurals; they are sleepy creatures who don't like to be disturbed).

So:

M.P.s are fiddling the books. (no apostrophe)
The M.P.'s fiddling is frequently reported. (apostrophe demarks they own the fiddling)

And now I must get on and do the chore's. (spot the mistake)

The strange thing is that I was educated in what are often regarded as the good old days and went to very academic school post 11-plus, but somehow I never grasped the basics of grammar. Nouns, adjectives and adverbs I could cope with, but esoteric things like pronouns (and therefore, clause analysis) were quite beyond me.
I just muddled though, going by whether something sounded right or not (just like that pesky apostrophe we're talking about).

I find an easy way to determine "its" or "it's" is to read the sentence but pronounce "it's" as "it is". If it makes sense then the apostrophe is being used correctly, if not, it isn't.

The cat found it's way home = the cat found it is way home. Not quite right, methinks.

If I were butterfly I would do some research into the house and see if you can come up with colour pictures of the house from before the disputed colour schemes were applied.
If you can find a colour scheme you like, you should be able to make a reasonable case to your local conservation officer to return the building to that scheme avoiding the arguments you're documented in your other thread?

As a guide (and as pford mentioned earlier, the final say rests with the CO, who will have their own opinion) we were allowed to restore turned wooden finials, with replacements based on a surviving example and old photographs, without formal LBC. The more recent finials were much plainer, although they may possibly have existed at the time of the first listing. I imagine that any attempt to play with original windows would be met with a lot less enthusiasm. A discussion with the CO to ask for suggestions is the best place to start.
