do posts need to be moderated?

Hello everyone, I joined this morning and posted a long post about our house, it said that it had posted successfully but didn't show up. I thought maybe it needs to go through a moderator first as I'm a new member but it still hasn't appeared. Did something just go awry or do posts from newbies need to await moderation? Thanks

The first few posts by new joiners are moderated. Later posts may be moderated too, yet that occurs infrequently. This is to avoid repeats of earlier misuse of the forum by 'bad guys'. This practice, whilst irksome to new joiners, is a necessary practice to keep the forum on topic and to the benefit of our special online community.

Perhaps I could make a suggestion to Simon Wright?

When the new poster has been approved just bump it up the threads to get it at the top again.
I never seem to notice the posts until someone does just that.

It's interesting you should mention that Lime. I thought I was losing the plot because several other people were bumping up first timers and could swear I hadn't seen the posts anywhere before.

What's really frustrating is that your next few posts get moderated too. Had I known I'd probably have waited for more responses then posted one big bumper post to reply to several folks at once.

Might be worth having a slightly different message on both the "Welcome" and "topic approved" message which says something like "your early posts and replies will be moderated". Don't get too specific otherwise the spammers will post just the exact number of on topic messages before going off topic.

Oh and I'm rather enjoying looking at other folks projects it's hopefully going to be my new "property porn" once we've bought the new place.

The bump is needed as otherwise on a busy day the first topic someone posts can be half way down the page by the time it gets approved (I assume everything is in the date / time order of when it was created, not approved)

Perhaps the easiest solution is if the mod who approves those first messages bumps them up the list?

I absolutely see the need for moderation at first, but it is very easy to miss posts when they appear halfway down the list.
