Ooh I've been learning so much this week. I'm having some success at removing the plastic coating from our stone cottage. In some places this exposes the stone and in others it's revealing a very thin 1mm -ish render which I believe is the residue of the original lime render. At the moment it looks like leaving the stone exposed may not be practical, as there are quite a few brick infill patches and areas still rendered.
So I was thinking that I'd get all the plastic textured muck off the building and then Limewash the outside walls. I know I can limewash over the render - but can I limewash straight over the stone or do I need to render it first? If not, will I get an even finish over the two differing surfaces?
This poor house is just starting to dry out after years of abuse - so I want to make sure I do the right thing
