There have been a few threads recently where I have mentioned that we left NFU because they were too expensive and moved to the insurances brokers Lloyd & Whyte. We had a complex arrangement where they allowed us to declare we wouldn't use our old uninsulated wood burner until we had it removed and replaced with a new fully compliant one. We were switching between insurers mid term to accommodate this.
When the work was complete we switched back to the original insurer and paid the additional premium up to expiry. In March 2022 our renewal premium was £1,155. In March 2023 it was £1,083. We have just had our renewal through for March 2024 and it's £1,168. This is pretty impressive when you take into consideration index linked rebuild cost increases. It's currently £619,000. The insurer continues to be Ageas Insurance Limited.
To be honest I was bracing myself for a monster increase but it didn't happen. I got totally fed up with every NFU renewal just going up and up. Lloyd & Whyte continue to be a breath of fresh air.
For all those struggling to manage their thatch renewals I would certainly (again!) recommend calling Lloyd & Whyte.
