Desperately seeking Window Repairer/Joiner

Hi Folks,
Anyone know of contact in the Gloucester(shire) area that would be competent at renovating victorian (not sash, casement?) window. The cill is rotten and needs replacing, two panes of glass need replacing and the stiles are fairly spongy.

Not had much joy with the old yellow pages and few responses without having a look simply suggest replacing it. I'm reluctant to go straight for the replacement option as we live in conservation area and all the other windows on the front of the property have leaded lights in top panes as does this particular one.

I can't be convinced to repair it myself as it's beyond my limitations and don't worry I ain't gonna (and know I can't!) replace it with UVPC or anything that is unsympathetic to the character of the house.

Can I suggest you contact the local authority and ask the CO if there is anyone who can be recommended?

There's Seeking Specialists on this site, and the SPAB may be able to help also, but I do know how hard it actually is to get a joiner to do a repair job, despite the fact it's the best option with period buildings.

The CO is having some R&R so I'll have to wait to speak to him in next few weeks. Already trawled this site and others with no joy.

I'll have another crack at the Yella Pages in the meantime and maybe have a coupla glasses to numb the montonous responses of :-

"Sorry love he's concentrating on extensions",
"Actually I ONLY do sashes"
" I know it says timber in the advert but I can stick a UVPC one in there mate it's cheaper and you won't have to paint it" :roll:

I know. My elderly mum had an attempted break in and trying to find someone to do a repair on the window was not a simple matter!

Eventually we did, and he was lovely, but in finding gold you have to trawl through a great deal of dross.
