Hi,
We moved into our house about 7 months ago and some parts are about 250 years old, our survey said rising damp get specialist opinion, we did. Had work done yes chemical injection replaced with modern stuff not all walls mind. (There is no damp course to old part). Lots off other work too (not forgetting this was recently tastefully renovated with not so tasteful price tag), im now choking on that thought. After a break down of ones senses, other walls we did not touch seem to have original lime render with a top coat of that new pink skim over the top, none of the usual signs of damp etc and thinking back to before works were done the walls done had no signs and when they were hacked of the walls looked mighty fine. My question is for the walls not done would rising damp of showed its ugly had by now and walls done could we have made things worse for them.(some internal as well as external walls, some walls on the outside have cement render so possibly now we have now 2 walls that are a cement sandwich.) Im now wiser to what should and should not be used and what old owners have done to this fantastic house. My concerns now we cant readily afford to put back to former glory and that possibly or not we have bought a swimming pool or made some walls worse. Umm please someone to talk too, so that maybe i can love this house like i did when we first viewed it (maybe with blinkers on, but you only see when others peoples stuff isn't hiding everthing etc), and yes both surveyors dealt with period property, sorry if this looks if i have just emptied all my thoughts erratically, but please help me smile again.
