I'm looking for a Damp Specialist in Northern Ireland who specialises in older or period properties rather than the usual members of the PCA. Can anybody recommend anyone?
Might be worth checking out one of the manufacturers websites for membranes, Hutton and Rostron who did a damp survey for me (not cheap but hopefully worth it) and took gravimetric analysis of cores drilled out of the wall have these as their suggestions.
All three seem to have lists of recommended installers which might be worth getting, as it would suggest the installers aren't the usual inject stuff into the wall crowd. Alternatively have you tried the georgian society in dublin? They might have some recommended surveyors.
I certainly would avoid the generic PCA folks, the report our buyer got on the flat we were selling had basically a two page report on the flat the rest being sales bumpf all of which I suspect used a cheapo wood damp meter.
NOTE: If you need this for a mortgage beware that in our case the bank insisted it was done by a PCA member H&R aren't members BUT they do have a member on staff who signed off on the report so it was usable.
I reckon most of us on here know more than most so-called damp experts. If you pay for my travel, I'll do it (but my report may not be acceptable to a mortgage lender).
