So, I was hoping if somebody could advise me about resolving a damp floor in an 18th C Devon farmhouse. I want to tile the floor, but its currently very uneven with lino on top, the house is generally damp due to a) high ground levels and b) poor surface water drainage. I want to level the floor, using a self leveller compound but ideally not raise the ground level too much, height from ceiling to floor is not great. My question is, if I use a self leveller will it act as a dpm and then merely divert the damp to the walls or is there a leveller that is breathable which, if i use permeable tiles, will allow the floor to breathe?
