I have damp on an outside wall. I was wondering if this could be due to water proof/repellent laminate flooring over the original wooden floor ( I don't think there's underlay underneath but not 100%)? I bought the house almost 3 years ago and although it was empty for approx 4 months it was lived in for the 6 previously.
Shortly after we moved in, two damp patches (black mould) appeared under the bay window, which we attributed to the windows leaking (very badly fitted and pretty old too) as it was under the corners.
Last september we finally had new windows and I moved a small sofa into the bay window. At Christmas when the sofa was moved, the damp had spread across whole bay and the floor under the sofa was mouldy too.
On another part of the wall theres blistering and blackmould at about 30cm while the other side of the wall has blistering at around 8ft ,although this may be due to plaster damage (not checked yet).
There is a DPC in the wall although its made of stone. I know it wasn't done in the last 9 years as the previous resident (former tennant) is an acquitance of mine.
The room is fitted with wood laminated, although this has been down for at least 4 years, but could this be preventing evaporation of water though the floor boards so making excess water creep up the walls, especially now the room is warmer due to the new windows? I don't want to pay for a new DPC only for it not to work.
