We've just been told that the capital budget for schools (the money used for maintenance and repairs) is to be cut by 80%. The amount will be shared equally, avoiding the need for a local authority bureaucrat to allocate it to where it is most needed. Part of our school is 350 years old and Grade II listed, with another large part mid-Victorian.
I suppose that considering the hardships faced by others, it is a bit churlish to question the economic arguments of letting our schools crumble into disrepair.
It's not all gloom though. Eton is believed to be unaffected by this measure.
