Curtain OR no curtain?

I have recently finished lime washing the walls up the stairs of my 18thC cottage (See attached a photo) and I'm not too sure whether to hang curtains over the window.
It is only a small window and I'm undecided what would look right, curtain OR no curtain.

Any advice...
What have you done....

To start the ball rolling - I wouldn't hang a curtain there, because it would serve no useful purpose (unless, of course, you're overlooked) and something that small might look a bit silly.
On the other hand, you do have a windowsill. So perhaps a curtain would serve to frame some tasteful ornaments?

A real dilemma - I'm glad it's yours and not mine!

I'd have a simple roller blind fitted within the window aperture.

Agree, roller blind. Easy to make, try Merrick and Day for the roller and use a piece of vintage fabric, should not cost you more than a tenner. Trim the bottom edge with something , ribbon or beads or tassles

Returning to the Curtain or Not to Curtain question.. personally I wouldn't bother with anything in Summer, but as it's a small window you could avoid the curtain or roller blind question altogether and hang a tapestry wallhanging from somewhere like http://www.cushionsonline.co.uk and in Summer you could hang a window shade from http://www.lavenderandsage.co.uk or an innaphi voile from http://www.ganesha.co.uk or a cotton voile from http://www.laredoute.co.uk or if you have an old embroidered tablecloth you could get it turned into a blind or hanging maybe ?
