Good in a way, but transport in the area is not great, and it's hell for driving. I did the London/Brighton Landrover run in, errm, 2003? starting from there, even on a Sunday it was dreadful, never seen so many traffic lights.
Nice idea to recreate the building, not sure this is the right place any more.
Use to have a 9.5mm film of the Palace burning down, seemed strange that a glass & iron building could burn.
I would be more impressed if they restored the race track .
As I worked at the Crystal palace TV transmitter site, I can vouch for the bad traffic around there, some times it took us 40 minutes to do the 1 1/4 mile from the top of Norwood Hill.

Not sure what to think really. The area has certainly changed a great deal from the days of the original construction - would they choose that place today to build such a thing if it had never been there before? But, if they move it, could it legitimately be called 'Crystal Palace'?
Also a bit disappointing that such a project has to be reliant on the Chinese, but that's looking like the way of the world for the next few decades at least. Still, if they are going to build our electricity generating capacity for us they might just as well rebuild our history as well.
I don't think that if this was uk money being used that a replica would be considered. It would have to be new (ie anti old or anti revivalist). I too think it is a shame that it takes an enthusiastic Chinese businessman to conceive such a project but I for one would love to see Crystal palace resurrected.
It's far from obvious what purpose this will serve, except for a bit of small print about a hotel and "sales rooms" neither of which were in the original> so one has to ask whether this is actually a massive commercial development and exercise in pulling the wool over peoples eyes>
For me it could be a very impressive folly, I don't mind. Almost all buildings that exist are ones that surround me as i go about my business, rather than ones that I utilise for some purpose. If I feel what surrounds me is attractive then I feel happier.
