Surely building a new house to get one that is energywise is bad?
The old one will still be there. I'd have thought it would be best to make it as efficient as possible....... then this is being discussed everywhere :lol:

No, no, Penners, not the car... I was refering to the craggers. Turning off lights, etc...what was formerly called cheap is now politically correct. Just like Madonna.

The Prius is quite a lot bigger than a Polo not just heavier 
but more importantly a Prius will be running on it's batteries in the Congestion Charge Zone so it won't be choking the rest of us - something that affected me directly when I was a cycle commuter.
Overall the Polo may puke less fumes but the congestion charge zone isn't a motorway so the averages don't make for a fair comparison.
It made me laugh a lot when I discovered that the latest variant of the Polo was as big as the mark I Golf which was considered an adequate family car in its day. Don't get me started on that Lexus tank that manages 25mph combined and is marketed as guilt free environmentalism. You should get a tax break for buying a smaller car...oh hang on you do
I'm particularly fond of hearing from the drivers of diesels that they were 'greener' because they go further per litre - they never seemed to be aware of the particulate emissions linked with asthma and lung cancer.
Then there's Biodiesel that produces more CO2 from coal in the processing and diesel in transportation than it saves in oil production and it still emits CO2 when burnt. :shock:
Don't get me wrong, I don't think hybrid cars are the real answer but the London CCZ exemption for hybrids isn't as unfair as the average consumption and emissions might make it appear.
