After a visit to the records office at Notts we had lunch at the "old trip" and noticed this window which is cut 3/4 of the way through the door lintle! I think the carpenter needs his spirit level recalibrated or maybe he drank the spirit!.

What on earth is the point of that "window"? It's so small it can barely be called that!

Are you sure it isn't an exterior light?

There's a Victorian terrace near me with 4 plastic waste pipes all hacked badly straight through the (structural) brick arch above the rear door. There's not much left of the centre of the arch! :roll:

It is certainly a window,the door below has two glass panels in it so it is not really needed but I think the glass in the door may be more modern and may have replaced wooden panels.The "trip to jerusalem"is worth a visit if you are in the locality,some rooms are caves in the rock below the castle and there is a "cursed" model ship which the last three folks who cleaned it died shortly after! Have had a "few" there over the years but noticed today that it has joined the "note the table number and order your meal from the bar" pubs,shame!.

Ah as a student. I vaguely remember many excellent nights in the Trip... in those days they served proper beer. I think it was in there I had my first pint of Old Peculiar. 8)
