Cracking Limecrete screed

Hi all

The Limecrete screed we put down a few months ago is cracking along the 'joins', so it looks like we've got large scale crazy paving. It looks like natural shrinkage but is this normal? Will it matter once the slabs are down on top of it? I guess I'm just looking for reassurance Thanks.

Surface crazing is pretty normal. Provided the slab hasn't broken into separate, moveable pieces you'll be fine. How thick was the limecrete and how long was it between pours?

It's about 65mm thick. It's the screed over the UFH. The whole lot was put in fairly fast but it does seem to be cracking along the different pours. I guess it will be OK but it's always good to have that 'there, there' pat on the shoulder by others who understand what you're on about Thanks.

It does not matter if there is some "crazing" in the screed.

After all it is only a level working base, once totally dry just cover it up with any hard or soft final floor. It is not going to go anywhere.

Thanks, Middi, for your encouragement I thought we'd done the last of the 'big' inside jobs yesterday, when we got a 3/4 ton piece of stone upstairs between 2 joists to finish off the fireplace in the bathroom, without starting on the floor again!!! I don't mind all this hard work, as long as I don't have to start redoing what I've already done!! Thanks again.

lovely house

but.

in the loft there are cables clipped to the ceiling joist/roof truss structure.

then lovely insulation to keep the heat in

it will also not let the cables shed their heat and the cable current carrying capacity in your case should be de rated by 50% to avoid cable over heating/fire.

a good solution is to fit a bit of sarking over the joists and clip the cables to this.

Hi Tony

Thanks for your advice but I don't believe we have a problem. I don't understand electrics at all, but I do know that our electrician has got so many different circuits that we're nowhere near capacity on any of them. I also know that in the loft space alone there are over 3,000 connections!! Staggering......but then so is the cost :shock: I can get a better description from him on Tuesday if you think we may have still got something wrong?

LOL Each downlight has 4 connections at the light end, then a connection to the junction box, then the junction boxes are connected...hmm....somewhere else (I'm not a sparky, can you tell?). Then there's connections for smoke alarms, sockets and I don't know what else. I daren't think how many there are in the whole house :shock:
