Correct treatment for new, external oak door? linseed oil?

Hi all- we have a new, raw oak front door on our pre-1850's gritstone cottage that we want to allow to age and grey naturally over time but as it is going to get a lot of weathering we want to add some protection periodically (we are already seeing some hairline cracks).
After lots of searching and talking to 'wood people' we think that linseed oil may be the stuff to use (every 6 months or so). Any advice would be gratefully received!

I've read that untreated oak is fine left alone and can look after itself. Hot direct sun could dry it too quickly and cause big shakes, or cracks but I suppose the danger of that has passed now it's autumn.

The last time I teak-oiled some outdoor hardwood furniture it went a shade of ghastly dirty blackish and I wished I'd left it to age naturally.
