Copper roofing sheet

We have just bought a tiny octagonal summerhouse which comes with a chipboard roof and roofing felt. Ideally I would like to replace or cover the felt with metal sheeting, for aesthetic purposes. I did think about using wide lead flashing but think it would be too heavy, so am now thinking about thin copper. Does anyone know where I can source copper sheeting and prices online, as I am having no luck. Have found lots of companies that sell it to trade, with no prices, but not to folk like me.

I would be very careful of using copper sheeting as they are a prime target for theives, believe me I have seen it done. You could consider a zinc roof like the sort used in Norway or Germany and you can get it in lots of colours and is very hard wearing, I have used it on a house on the Hardangervidda in Norway and has stood up to the nasty weather very well.

Depends on the aesthetic you are after but I have seen a lovely wall on a school in Cumbria clad in beaten flat copper panels reclaimed from hot water tanks. Would work equally well lapped on a roof.

If you find it too difficult to source copper sheet, you may like to consider cedar shingles with perhaps copper gutters.

Thanks people. Great ideas. Particularly like the one about the heating tanks. Our garden is completely hidden from view to everyone but us, so am hoping the roof wouldn't get pinched, however I hadn't considered this, so thanks for the advice.

Code 4 lead sheeting (1.8mm thick) is 20.4Kg per sq m, according to the lead sheet association website that I've been reading for my own roofing project. This might help your decision process.

As for people stealing roofs, I'd like to know where they sell the stuff. I'm replacing the lead work on a number of dormer windows and will have loads of the old lead to recycle.

Does anyone know where I can sell it? I've found places that will take it for recycling but can't find anyone to offer me a price.

I would suggest looking thru the yellow Pages for scrap metal merchant. I have seen one (Stowmarket) that advertises "cash paid for scrap metal").
