Huge tranche of airfield buildings listed today. Including the hangers at Larkhill - historically important themselves but they do have an awful effect on the views from Stonehenge.
Nothing at Coltishall, unfortunately.

Good! After the SAVE Farnborough battle (thankfully the important historic core now NOT being bulldozed) it's good news!

It'll certainly give you something to do. What would SAVE suggest using a load of redundant hangars in the middle of nowhere for?

Methinks there's a big challenge in the offing.

BTW, nothing listed at Coltishall because, despite being the only surviving Battle of Britain station to demonstrate the complete development of aerial warfare from the 1930s to the present day, it's closing down next year and the MOD are looking forward to a windfall.

Yes, as with redundant hospital buildings... history is forgotten when money beckons. And Eh isn't innocent I fear.

Farnborough had many buildings bulldozed of course which shouldn't have been, and there was listing, de-listing and re-listing.

The core including the wind tunnels is now being incorporated in Slough Esataes palns for the site, but I do know how much work went on behind the scenes with that one, and how much the nation owes Adam Wilkinson of SAVE for his gritty determination to see the place saved.

I gather that there are other buildings which are deserving of listing missed off the list too...

I passed through a few of those long ago, but can't recall even one detail of the architecture.

Although I appreciate that recent moves have meant the info on the website needs updating (if anyone wants to volunteer for this job they would be welcomed with open arms!) the campaign report on Farnborough is available to read on the SAVE website, if the 'blue' links are followed through. Masses of pics and info on the site.

On the homepage 'Go to the campaign index', click on Farnborough.

Alternatively back copies of the full report are still available from the SAVE office, current price is actually now four quid (SAVE booksale price) or three for Friends.

Slough Estates has stopped the demolitions, some listings have been upgraded, and the SAVE plans for the re-use of a great many buildings adopted.
