Connecting high level cistern to flush pipe

Following on from my earlier temporary fix, I now have the correct cistern but I'm not sure how to connect this one either! The flush pipe is new, and is officially 35mm outside diameter, but fits quite well into the old Japkap syphon which I assume must be an imperial size and thread -



So, does anybody know please how these should be connected? Is it a compression join or perhaps more like a tap connector? I can get 35mm olives which would seem to be the right thing for the job, but what nut would I need? Was there ever an inch & 3/8 size of plumbing fitting, I can't seem to find one on Google.

As always, any suggestions please will be very welcome.

Or, having now just found out that BSP sizes aren't the actual measurements they would appear to be, perhaps I need one of these?

For the benefit of anyone else trying to do something like this in the future, the answer is that the output thread on an old Japkap syphon is 1.25" BSP parallel. So, the adapter I linked to is the correct thing to connect it to a modern 35mm flush pipe.

Just a general observation: for any plumbing joints which prove to be difficult to seal completely dry, I swear by Fernox LS-X. So long as you follow the instructions carefully, it will seal just about any weeping joint. A bonus is that it's not too difficult to peel off the surfaces later, should you need to.

Despite sounding like a commercial, I don't own shares in Fernox!
