Connect close coupled cistern to high level pan?

Hello again, more help needed please.

I need to make a temporary connection to a toilet cistern so that I can get it working until the proper replacement one arrives.

I have a high level toilet pan, but I don't have the correct cistern to go with it. What I do have is a spare cistern from a close coupled toilet and I would like to know if I could fix it to the wall with some brackets and connect the two together using something like this - http://www.screwfix.com/p/fluidmaster-flush-pipe-12-x-8/67559#

It says it comes with a nut and olive, so I assume this is for the end that connects to the cistern, but does anybody know please if it will it fit to the threaded end of the modern syphon poking out of the bottom of the close coupled pan?

Unfortunately it is a 60 mile roundtrip for me to Screwfix or any other big DIY store to be able to see the connection myself in person, so if anyone can help it would be much appreciated please?

Not too sure Me but you say you have a high level pan but talk about connecting to a modern low level pan fitting. I'd imagine maybe warming up the flush pipe with a blowlamp for example if it is too small to fit or packing it out with copious amounts of mastic or putty with some rag/rope/paper etc to seal it if it is too big.

Certainly, This is the pan -


It is a new pan that currently has no pipe connected to it at all, so that is why I hoped to be able to connect to it using the finned rubber type of connector on a modern plastic flush pipe. But, if I'm wrong in thinking I can do that, then please do say?

Sounds like an awful lot of trouble, how about a large bucket and a tap on the end of the supply pipe :lol:

SWMBO has already suggested a bucket. However, the look in her eyes when she suggested it more than hinted to me that if a bucket was still required by the time that Christmas visitors started arriving, then my sausage roll and mince pie quota may be drastically reduced

It used to be quite common to see a so-called high level pan fitted to a medium level cistern mounted about a foot above the pan.
The thread coming out of the cistern is a standard thread for all modern syphons fitted to both high and close coupled cisterns.
Your suggestion should work.
The only problem you may have is that the pan needs to be further away from the wall, compared to a close-coupled toilet, to accommodate the flush pipe.
But that will only worry you if you intend to fit a close-coupled toilet at a later date.

Thank you, I've bought the flush pipe and I'll have a go connecting it up today,
The pan is staying once it is fitted, it is only the cistern that is temporary. As long as the pan connects to the drain and flush pipe OK, and there is sufficient room for the seat to be raised and stay up without falling back again, then I presume there is no exact rule about the distance of the pan from the wall, unlike with a close coupled version?
