Hello!
We have started our renovations, we took out a plaster board wall to reveal what was behind it. The wall is an external wall, and it a bit of a mash with old crumbly lime mortar pointing and cement pointing too. There is also patched up areas with cement. (See photos).
Really my question is will we need to chisel out the cement pointing and cement patching before we can begin the lime plastering?
And do we need to do anything with the lime pointing before we go over it with a lime plaster? we will wet the area first but does that need removing a little beforehand?
We intend to plaster over the walls with lime plaster rather than repointing as we already have most of the room with exposed stone work. Not to mention- we need to keep damp at bay!
The cement - it goes without saying, is incredibly tough. We don’t want to potentially damage the stone walls if we don’t need to.
