I'm a plasterer specialising in traditional lime work and am keen to take on a labourer and send them through collage. So I was wondering if any body knows if any funding is available to help me do this? I'm based in The Midlands.
CITB Construction skills
(Construction Industry Training Board) supports registered firms with training. You will either be registered with them or need to register. As a company working in the construction industry you should be registered but many companies aren't. I've just been found by them and forcibly registered.
They are a quango set up by the government to support training of apprentices etc. They levy a charge against larger construction firms to support the training of people in the smaller firms. If you're registered you will be assessed annually to see if you need to pay a levy (the current threshold is about £90k). So if you're turnover is below that you won't be charged a levy but will be able to make use of their services. Contact them at http://www.citb.co.uk
Thanks for the replies everyone. I advertised the job and I'm going to start someone who is 26 and has not been long term unemployed so it seems he is not eligible for the New deal or Princes Trust. So it looks like the CITB is the way forward.
Obviously if it doesn't work out then New Deal and Princes Trust are viable options again.
Nemesis thanks for that, I noticed a link to them on the CITB site. I only read it briefly but I think a certain level of skill has to be attained first but it's something for the future.
Taff in Glaws thanks for he comment, even if he doesn't go into conservation or specialise in lime, I hope at least he'll have an understanding of the difference in materials
My sister in law has a friend who works for the CITB, so she's going to ask her for more info. She also suggested the Learning and Skills Council.
