Some holiday photos of Cluny Abbey in France that might be interesting. Built in 11th century it's more a lack of abbey these days having been confiscated after the revolution and sold for building materials.
The floor pan in the first photo gives an idea of scale with the remains of two towers in the foreground and one at the rear.
The remaining tower photographed from the nave.
The internal structure is visible in a lot of places with fine carved stones on the outside and rubble stone in the middle of the walls. There has been a lot of restoration work over the last few years.
The visitor info says the roof on the 13C flour store is original. Interesting simple construction.
17C cloisters now used as accommodation for an engineering school.
The town is full of medieval buildings. Most have lost their features and have been rendered in concrete but some are being restored.
