Is there any masonry above that opening and if there is what's supporting it? The masonry above the fireplace lintel looks pretty unstable too, replacing that lintel is going to be tricky.

P Phill123 Member Messages 24 Jun 14, 2013 #4 The original Lintel had been cut ! Which is a shame as we would have kept it in.. This and that fact it was full of woodworm prompted us to change it. Ive attached some more pics to show recent update. Im still questioning over Slate or Stone Hearth.. Any thoughts??
