clay pizza oven.

Ive been thinking about a building a BBQ for the garden then i stumbled upon clay bread ovens. Anyone ever knocked one of these together?

Every new moon there is a pizza party very near to you at Coney Weston, and open to all. We just take some toppings. The dough is provided free. The pizzas are cooked in an outside oven that is constructed from just brick and clay. It makes very good pizzas and bread too. If you fancy having a look at the oven I will let you know where it is - or take you there. Very friendly bunch of people who gather there, some are even 'normal'.

What a fantastic and interesting Forum...
If you were to go to http://www.fornobravo.com and find the link for the U.K site, I don't think you will be disappointed. They offer kitset ovens, ready made and there is a download link for step by step instructions to build your own. Great service and products.
I must say though, what a brilliant picture above, my 5 year old just loves it - guess what I'll be doing shortly!

thanks for the link Rudsdale Family , i have been reading through their forum and there is lots and lots of advice on there although i doubt my oven will be anything near as posh as some of the ovens on there.
Penners me old chappy , clay bread? i am pretty sure my first few attempts will be just that , where out foreign have you been? i can thoroughly recommend the island paradise of Hull for a nice holiday abroad, you have to get there via a large bridge.
right then , ive managed to acquire some flint to build a plinth but cannot find any clay for love nor money , well , i can for money but its expensive.
anyone doing any excavations? i have tried to dig it out of my garden but my top soil is a good 700mm deep so i would have to excavate half the garden to get to it , it is a nice yellow colour though.

Oh, nowhere as exotic as Hull. Just near some boring sea called the Mediterranean.

Strange water - you can see right through it. Not like the good old Humber water, which gives you something substantial to chew on.

Ideal for washing down the "clay bread then"! I can see you've tried my homemade wholemeal spelt and millet loaf then? (Mr M can't decide whether it's best used as a breeze block replacement building material or a dangerous projectile!

Rob, the next party should be on July 25th. I will let you know nearer the date when I've had confirmation. And, yes, they are baby friendly. Usually start around 7ish till whenever. They are held in a field used by chainsaw carvers. One of them lives there in a bender.( 16C I would think )

clay wise guys , will any old clay do? does it need to be pure or would clay with bits of chalk and stuff in be ok?
i really need to go and register on that clay oven forum dont i?

i was also thinking about rendering the outside of it , ive got some chalk , lime putty and some goats hair lying around , would this do for an oven? ive read that they dont really get all that hot on the outside.

When I worked for a DIY retailer, every year we used to have to come up with daft facts for the company newsletter for their peak easter sales period - "this Easter we sold enough fence panels to stretch to the moon", "we sold enough paint to fill 100 Olympic-sized swimming pools" (why are they always Olympic-sized???) etc.

One time we worked out how many Chinese pigs perished in the making of all the cheap and nasty paint brushes sold that Easter (they use pig hair). Funnily enough, that one didn't make it into the newsletter.......
