Clay lump building

Hi we have a clay lump building which at the moment is just that- no lime plaster just bare clay lump. It has planning consent to convert it and connect it to our grade 2 listed cottage. The plans that were drawn up by previous owners are for it to be a bedroom but I think it would be better as a kitchen diner. So my question is ... would there be any reason why you could not put a kitchen in a room made from clay lump? I’m thinking from a breathability point ventilation, steam etc

Welcome, A kitchen should be fine - there are a lot of breathable buildings around with kitchens in them. Worth checking the normal stuff - that the walls aren't soaking wet already due to high external ground levels or bad roof drainage etc.

The things to be careful with are maintaining breathability using lime and stuff, and avoiding modern paints which are often plastic based. An extractor over the oven is a must, and avoiding introducing excessive moisture (for example by drying clothes) is a good precaution as there is only so much moisture a breathable building can suck out.

And I would avoid hanging any cabinets on the walls.
