Christmas books

Hello again,
Family members have asked me for ideas of what I'd like for Christmas, and I was wondering if anyone had read any good reads this year that they would recommend? Not only about old buildings but history books too, I'd be interested to hear about.
I've just read Voices of Morebath which was excellent - Tudor life on Exmoor at the time of the Reformation.

It's been out for quite a few years now, but I found Liza Pickard's "Dr Johnson's London" absolutely fascinating (as are her other books on Elizabethan, Restoration, and Victorian London).
As for it being too early to think about Christmas, Zebra, it may be a month until Stir Up Sunday for the pudding, but the cake will need baking soon if it's to be fed properly beforehand. Think I might start another thread about that though...

The decorations are going up in our main shopping street at this very moment, and it isn't even Halloween yet :shock: Perhaps someone should design something that incorporates a little element from every celebration and we could just leave it up all year, ChineseNewYearDeepavaliWintervalEasterFest.

I agree it's way too early to think about Christmas but I have an 80 year old mother-in-law who has to plan her shopping trips and gets in a panic if she hasn't organised presents yonks in advance.
