We have knocked some of the chimney out in our middle room as it was all blocked in and the builder needed to see what was going on! Basically, the previous owner knocked out the previous flues for the downstairs and upstairs fires, fitted a wood burning stove downstairs and from the back a pipe went straight up to the chiney terminal. He then had all the space around the pipe filled with concrete and the upstairs fireplaces was boarded over. Needless to say my husband is knackered knocking it all out!
Anyway, we are now at a stage where we want to get the flues rebuilt so that we can use both fires. Should we get them lined? The upper part of the flue from the downstairs fire is still in tact so we were told it seems pointless to knock it all down.
Also the fire in the front room and the one above that have their flues perfectly in tact. All that needs to be done to reinstate these is the chimney put back on the roof. Again, should we get these flues lined? If we do, does that mean they will need to be knocked out etc?
I hope this makes sense, sorry if I am using the worng terminology!
