Hi, I am currently living in a house where the chimney is soaking wet and has white mould growing on the wall in my bedroom. My landlord has employed builders to try and fix the chimney from the outside. The moisture level got up to 90 in the room. There was white mould on the wall of the chimney, which I washed off. We now have a de- humidifier in the room and the level is now reading 48. I am concerned that the inside of the chimney will be mouldy and that it may be coming through the fireplace that is in the room. They painted some kind of sealant on the chimney, but it has worked as, in the bad weather is then got very wet again. I had to move out as I had developed a cough that is ongoing. I have now moved out of the bedroom as I have developed a nasty chest cough that has been going on and off for 6 weeks. I notice the air feels more damp in the room I am talking about. Is it possible, if there are damp spores in the inside of the chimney, it could affect one? and do you have any suggestions as to how to sort this situation out?
