I have a mid terraced house built between 1880-84.
We asked 3 companies to come round to look at the slates on our roof but they all immediately commented on the work the rear chimney needed so we decided to get it all done at once. Not being very Knowledgeable about these things we asked for every thing to be done that would make every thing 'right and correct'
The chimney stack has been partially rebuilt so that wont fall down now, but all the roofers commented on the fact there didnt appear to be any lead around the chimney so we asked to have that done.
My neighbours side of the stack you can see lead running all the way around the bottom of the chimney and covering the tiles, I thought ours would look like this. I rang the roofer we chose last night and he tells me it has been done, the lead only goes UNDER the tiles, hence the fact I cant see it.
Ive since found out this must be the soaker that goes under the tiles and a seperate piece , the flashing , that goes round the outside giving a complete seal, like my neighbours.
So my question is (eventually) is the roof sealed properly with just this soaker in place or should there be a top layer of lead as well.
Ive looked at the quote and it does just say
"fix new lead soakers to side of chimney stack"
Why would he only do half a job when we made it clear we were prepared to pay for every thing necessary to ensure the roof and chimney were as good as they could be.
Any advice would be appreciated as I am not happy with the level of service we have received from this company. My dad tells me the brick work they have done is solid, but the customer service and communication is very poor. I really dont want to be hoodwinked by these people.
