Chimney cowls

Several of our fireplaces are unused. I've been advised to get some chimney cowls, which seems sensible. Clearly the house has never had cowls.

So, what do folks recommend using for terracotta pots on our Edwardian house? Any more 'period', 'suitable', or 'appropriate', than others? What are the considerations?

Yes, a good idea to limit the water coming into a disused flue, even if it's ventilated at the bottom which I presume yours are or will be.
Can't go far wrong with a terracotta elephant's foot or bonnet, imho.

Unless of course you have buff pots, then it might become more tricky.
