Good afternoon all,
I removed a 1970's fireplace surround from this wall and was greeted to this hack job behind it. I want to replace it with a victorian georgian cast iron fireplace that I have salvaged. The problem I have now is that the chimney breast opening is too narrow and too low for the new fireplace insert
The red box is approximately the opening size of the original fireplace opening ( judging from other fireplaces in house)
My questions are, how do I safely restore the fireplace to its original size? Where do I install the new concrete lintel without any sort of collapse?
I have an abundance of red brick in garage so I would like to completely remove the concrete bricks and replace with these. I also have acrow props and strong boys to hand.
Thanks in advance.
