Chandeliers

Hello,

I have to install a number of chandeliers and wall lighting fixtures. I don't have any original ones, and will take some creative license in choosing them.
I am looking for crystal type, chrome finished ones -- does anyone recommend a more reasonable source for them? I keep hearing that Czech Rep or nearby countries have much better prices. So, thought maybe I could find someone who sources from there. An idea, based on my budget.

I need 3 matching ones, plus another 3 more, and want to buy them ready (i.e. not interested in buying old ones and reconditioning, unless they are already in good condition and it's as simple as installing).

Atlas, it would be great to have pictures of your property, and also pictures of the type of chandelier you want to buy. Unfortunately the holy trinity of good quality, good price, and being ready to use is usually an impossibility. Even getting 2 of the three is an achievement.

We used Bonds, also known as the uk chandelier company, and I was very pleased with the service and aftercare- though ours was a DIY installation. Pics on p7 of this thread

There are some really lovely fittings in Chester, will get that link too.

Mine was chosen after long, long discussions with Gareth Hughes about lighting - someone who really does know about architecture and design. The upshot of our discussions was that if you're mixing crystal with a lot of fancy metalwork in modern lighting then you get a very contemporary design, so I was careful to try and find a design with as little metalwork as possible. There are specialist lighting companies who reproduce the chandeliers of the period but I won't link to them as they're many many thousands and just upsetting frankly.

I can't find our exact one now but it was around £1000. You get better value for money in the second hand market but finding matching is quite hard ( though not impossible) Ebay is always interesting. I don't think the old crystal is as sparkly as the new stuff but you find beautiful workmanship.

Not used these people in Chester but their stock is always interesting.
