Hi
Window installed. We didn't ask them to use foam but they did, and windows are in.
Inside of cottage is lime plaster. Sides of window reveal are modern plaster from when the previous windows were put in (probably 40 years ago). Would probably like to redo these in lime plaster so when I come to put on a coloured limewash on the walls in that room it all matches - but this is a job for another day.
We have sheepswool insulation in the loft. Walls are stone, rubble filled.
Need to fill in the gaps around the window frame internally. In the past they might have used newspaper to insulate a bit and lime mortar/plaster.
Keeping the cottage warm in winter is a challenge (we are quite exposed) and so I'd like to use this as a chance to insulate a bit more if we can.
At the moment can still feel a bit of a draft around the window frame.
Don't want to use more foam.
Materials we have on site - lime mortar, some Knauf eco roll (used in extension). Also have a roll of Compriband 8-40mm.
(At the top of the window is a wooden batten which we will probably leave? And then in front of this was a narrow wooden strip/'pelmet'. Because we are re-hanging a roller blind we will probably reinstate this 'pelmet' as it does the job and will be hidden by the blind anyway.)
