We're very lucky here in having an excellent conservation officer, the wonderfully-named Gary Cooper, who has done a heck of a lot to preserve what's good around here.
The darned shame is that his isn't a permanent post, and when the Objective One EU funding that has done so much for the area (Gawd bless the EU!) comes to a stop in 2008, so will his job, leaving the town open to the predations of lesser men with concrete on their mind.
