I have a fairly standard design (for Suffolk) pantile roof, that has sprocketed rafters and capped bargeboards. The problem I have is that all my bargeboards are rotting at the point where the cap is jointed to follow the change of pitch that is caused by the sprocket. Apart from the extreme (and non-original) solution of covering the whole cap board with lead right from top to bottom, I can’t think of any way to prevent water getting in this join and causing the wood below to rot.
Do other people have this problem? Has anyone come up with any good ideas to prevent the water getting in please?
I believe that both capped bargeboards and sprocketed rafters are mainly Suffolk traits so for a bit of background information for anyone unfamiliar with them, please see this old thread here if you are interested.
Many thanks.
