Can anyone identify these rusty old things?

I'm having a huge and ruthless tidy up. This house is full already! This is partly prompted by my mum finally insisting I at last move my stuff out of her house, so I'm chucking out primary school projects, and first love-letters and Sindy dolls etc, and plan to reduce the general clutter in BC by half. It's not easy but it must be done.

Anyway these items have been loitering in the scullery for the last twenty-five years, the previous owner said he dug them up in the garden. Anyone know what they are?

The other thing I have that's just so irritating is jars and jars of fossils from the garden, also dug up by the previous owner. Is it acceptable just to chuck them back? I hate fossils. :evil:

I'll start with picture 1. Its a pink Peg for hanging washing on a line.
Not sure about the other objects though :?

I think the curved "thing" is the handle off something,probably a brass "jam pan" or then again it might not be!

I reckon the first article is a bucket or pan handle.

The second could be part of a railing.

The third (in the background of your bottom photo) is definitely Excalibur. Did you pull it out of a stone, by any chance?

The bow, is a handle off something. Something like a witches' cauldron or similar.

The sword looks like it is for skewering something but I can't think what (possibly the witch!)

The squiggly thing is definitely a squiggly thing...

Joce - I think you have accurately identified them already; as "rusty old things". If you start collecting "rusty old things" in a serious way, then I would be happy to let you have my extensive collection to add to yours. Free - provided you come and collect them. 8)

As for fossils - what sort? Nothing large like a T.rex thigh bone or anything I presume? :shock: If just a load of broken ammonites then I think it is ok to bury them again if you want (or give them to your local museum). You could I suppose carefully rebury them on top of a digital watch, or inside of one of your chicken skellingtons. That'll really fox the paleontologists of the future!

I'm thinking of having myself buried* with a dictionary placed on my stomach. So when I'm unearthed it'll pay back all of those idiots who, whenever I use a word of more than two syllables, say mockingly, "Ooooh - who's swallowed a dictionary, then?"

Nothing so interesting, really terrible stuff, like what's pictured below, (and boxes and boxes of them- he was obsessed with the idea of Anglo-Saxon settlement on this hill and always finding new evidence)

The piece of flint above the egg as we look at the pic looks like an arrow head. I would take the "speshul fossils" to an archaeologist at least.

Seriously though - someone will probably now identify rare and priceless Saxon pottery in that picture and you'll be rich beyond (even!) your wildest dreams! :lol:

Yes I think they're bullets, there are loads of bullets of all descriptions.

What does interest me are all the stones. The quantity and size of them makes me think something much grander was here a long time before BC. OK, some of these might just be remnants of pig sties or dry stone walls, but some are definitely architectural in their shape don't you think?

That kind of gargoyley face thing may have been stolen I think, but the others aren't.

When digging some steps down to the river trent at the end of the garden I found some civil war bits and some blacksmith type rubbish (chain,horse shoes, broken garden forks etc).I then purchased a metal detector which is a great time waster! The scottish regiments were camped in this area during the siege of newark,There was also a WW2 pill box on the river bank which is probably responsible for the uniform buttons and bayonets.Why so many coins? were folks so careless?I found some tokens for a penny with an image of newark castle on them forced in a small gap around the workshop door frame.Mole hills are a good source of musket balls.The house was a wheelwrights workshop and the smithy was next door so a lot of ferrous rubbish was probably just thrown out.When gardening I try not to look at the ground too hard and leave the metal detector inside as it just slows the gardening down!

The bullet-like things are Belemnites, parts of cuttlefish like creatures, probably from the Jurassic or Cretaceous period. They are very common and of no value. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belemnoidea

Chuck the Sindy dolls in my direction, please. Old ones are highly sought after on E-bay.

When we cleared the loft , we put my wifes ones (early 60s) (the dolls, not the wife) on E-bay. She got £2,000+ for them.

My sister alleged that I drew anatomically incorrect details on her one dolly (not recently).
