Calculation help needed please.

This is going to sound really ridiculous. Can someone please remind me how I work out the area of a building in square metres. I am doing this to work out the cost of a proposed extension to our property. It will be two storeys.

I seem to recall length times breadth times height comes into it somewhere - but if it's odd shapes it's more complicated!

The proposed building will be 9.260mtrs x 3.985mtrs x each floor height approx 2.45mtrs.

Square metres is width x length
So 9.260mtrs x 3.985mtrs = 36.9011m2 per floor or 73.8022 in total for both floors.
If you're after the volume in Cubic metres you add in the height
width x length x height = 180.81539 m3 + you would need to account for eaves and foundations, and the floor void.

I believe (but don't know) that for an extension estimate you can multiply square metres by a fixed price to get an idea. i.e. £1500 per m2 X 74m2 = £111,000 but you need that fixed price to be realistic not guessed by me!

number x number x number = number M3...... x this by 2 for each floor - not forgetting floor construction M3 - and that will give you total M3 for proposed extenssion ...... I would have worked it out for you but calculator is broken.............

So the area of each floor is 36.9 square metres, that's 73.8 square metres for both floors together.

The 2.45m height only comes into the calculation if you want to find volume, perhaps for planning heating systems.

. . . it will also do conversions as well, for people like me who often like to work in imperial units (try googling "convert 100 sq ft to sq m" for example). Very useful indeed.
