I live in a mixed area. The house next to me has been on and off the market for over a year. It is a bit of a lash up and no doubt the surveyors find something amiss so the sale falls through. 3 times now. i am tempted to buy it to control who my neighbours are. The ones on the other side are utter shits but luckily are hardly ever there. I think it is rentable but I know I would be itching to make it bettter as I'm not logical and care about my area. Has anyone else done this?

Not done it yet but when my ex shifts his but and I get my hands on my capital I'm itching to do it. The one I've bought for myself is slum landlord territory. Pay attention to parking facilities. You can upgrade a property and ask a higher rent to get a better quality of tenant but lack of parking gives it a definite ceiling. The other factor to consider is would YOU want to live next door to your landlord?
