Just a post for posterity - I applied Burnt Sand mastic for the first time to my window frame surrounds last Thursday - its fantastic and thanks to colleagues on this site I knew what I should be aiming for in the mix .Mind you I probably looked a bit like one of those first time plasterers when the stuff kept falling off the trowel slap onto the floor. It made me realize though that old materials generally are so much more forgiving than the modern rubbish I just scraped it off the ground and re-applied it!
Just wanted to thank you all for the help and advice on this Windows project - my first restoration/repair work ever - I couldn't have done it without the support and humour of you all I'm now truly bitten by the bug - so much more interesting than the job I do 8hrs a day. Whats more I've met some really skilled ocal people this year who I'm sure I can learn more from as time goes on.
