building regs and stained glass

Does anyone have any advice regarding building Regs for Stained Glass or leaded lights in front doors. Joiners generally seem to be of the opinion that that they need to be double glazed or possibly secondary glazed, which we don't want. It will be a new four panelled door, historic house (1798, but remodelled in 1870s) and situated in the middle of a conservation village.

I suspect building regs wise you should have DG.

However, as you are in a conservation area, you may be able to not have to do this.

The person to ask is your local authority Conservation Officer.

There are times when one just has to be an outlaw. You could offset the crime with thermal underware and a handy packet of elastoplast.

Depends on the conservation area though - may be an Article 4 which means choice of door is restricted anyhow.

Thanks for the suggestions. We took the plunge and phoned building control who were delighted to inform us that as long as the glazing doesn't occupy more than 50% of the door we don't need to conform to building regs.
