Brickwork over windows, flint house

Hello.

We are restoring our flint home back to how it should be, sadly it was rendered over years ago.

We have removed most the render off the front of the house now, it looks great other then around the windows.

Looks like all the original brick has been removed from around the windows, we have engineering bricks there now which support a wooden beam.

How was the original done, do you think the old frame might have supported the bricks?

Oh dear, the plastic window morons, and then they rendered the façade to conceal their mutilation.

Other local houses may of course give you a clue, but I would not think that window head sufficiently strong to have supported the wall above, I suspect that was inserted by the oafs when they did the damage.
I would guess that there was originally a brick arch above each ground floor window, and the brick surrounds and arch were similar in design to those surviving over the doors.
Not impossible for a brickie to recreate, once you have decided what to do about the windows, ie whether to shrink them nearer their original dimensions.

Perhaps a local salvage yard would have matching bricks.

Even if my guess is wrong, it could still look 'right' if you shrink the windows to recreate the sideways space, so nothing to prevent you (other than £££ perhaps) if you wish.
