There was brick flue installed here in c. 1863 in a c. 1741 limestone rubble wall. The fireplace was blocked up in the 1980s like most of the fireplaces in the house. There is no longer a stack above this fireplace.
I was hoping there would be a nice arch and I could open up the space to make a little alcove or put in a (decorative) old-style fireplace. But all I have is two metal plates and these bricks.
The boring plan would be to remove the rest of the plasterboard and lime-plaster the wall. But has anyone done anything prettier or more interesting with this kind of thing?
