Breathable strip

My quarry tiled kitchen floor has been de-plastered. At the perimeter there is a space before the wall approximately 10mm wide. It was filled with the plaster that had been removed from the wall, but I have dug it out.

I want to fill this gap with something so that the gap won't be filled with new plaster when the room is being plastered, and leave it in there, behind the skirting. I want it to be breathable, so that it won't cause damp problems - any ideas of what I could use?

Something that won't soak up any moisture, but will allow air to pass through, but what?

If I am reading it right you could use cork strips or some lime putty with fine silver sand.

Does this sound ok? maybe a picture would help?

The 10mm gap will presumably be covered by the skirting, so why bother to fill it at all?

Your new lime plaster on the wall will presumably stop slightly above floor level, to avoid moisture transference (the gap being covered by the skirting), so personally I don't think I'd bother about filling the floor gap.
