Black Victorian floorboards

Just looking at the Archived topics section.
Was anybody able to give a definitive answer to Peters question (1st April 2005) and Alf’s question (9th Feb 2006) regarding black Victorian floor stain? It’s an effect I need to reproduce myself to blend in old and new floor boards along a corridor currently covered with a fitted carpet.

I don't know what those questions are - a link would have helped.

If you want to create a dark stained floor then I would consider using Osmo colour foundation and then their hardwax oil finish. I used this to even up two floors that had been stained/lacquered around the edges but not in middle. A search will bring up the photos and more information.

In the pervious house we had the black 'staining' had the consistency of tar (albeit a very thin layer) made me think of immitation lino.

The floors had billions of tacks concentrated around the door some with small bits of lino still attached.

Since we installed central heating the tar became a bit sticky and (sadly) had to go.

The black area was about a metre in from the skirt in a house built is 1881 for £250.
