Black Quarry Tile

Hi all

I've got a load of 9x9 red/black quarry tiles that I'm relaying. I'm a little short of tiles, and whilst red ones are readily available, the black ones seem pretty rare.

Anyone know if there is a way to glaze a red one to make it black?

A bit of unwanted history; the production of blackened and blued quarry tiles was a mistake that resulted from a failure to switch off a tunnel kiln at the due time thus over-cooking the 10,000 plus tiles inside. The company concerned 'Daniel Platt Tileries' decided not to write off the load and began marketing them and they turned into a huge success for the company. Additional tidbit; the managing director at the time was my Godfather.

The black/blue colour stain runs right through the tiles cross section just like a burned cake or loaf.

There must be something about blue/ mauve/ black, Mr Perkin invented the first synthetic organic dye while he was trying to synthesise quinine. Didn’t know about the tiles, another happy accident. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Henry_Perkin
