Bitumen for Parquet flooring

Having exposed the original 1930's parquet flooring there are several areas that are loose -and several that are damp (but hopefully drying)

The original has been secured with bitumen.

Is this still the best way of securing the blocks and if so any product recommendations?

Will the bitumen help prevent damp from the concrete flooring?

Toolstation sell a product called Cromaprufe that is designed for the job that you want. See link below and scroll down their page. I imagine there are plenty of other similar products from other companies.

Just about nothing but bitumen sticks to bitumen, so if its bitumen now, keep it that way.

Bitumen acts as a vapour barrier to help keep the blocks dry. with a concrete interior floor this isnt a problem.

I used 'Styccobond F21 Adhesive' on our wood block floor. It's good stuff and easy to use. It is a bitumen adhesive so, if what NT says is correct about it's properties, it sounds like it'll be just the job for you.

I've included a link but I got mine locally by ringing the manufacturer (Ball) and asking about their nearest supplier.

It comes in 2 sizes, 25 and 15 litres (I think). I got a 'large', did around 8m sq and ended up with around 18 litres left!

It does have a limited shelf life so check the date if you can before you buy it.
