Best place to buy a single bag of lime plaster?

We have been surviving the cold by leaning Kingspan up against the windows and furiously stuffing insulation into the loft.
Next on the list is a bit of patching to the lime plaster around the victorian bays added to our house. The base layer is fine so just needs skimming. Where can I buy a single bag of lime plaster from and what kind do I need to get?

You'll get lime easily. What you won't get is ready mixed plaster.

Lime Green, but the carriage will make it an expensive bag of plaster. I'm lucky, they're only a few miles from me.

Not well, because the best plaster uses chalk. If you make a lime & sand plaster you need to have experience to judge the ratios.....the clay content of the sand, the particle size and so on make quite a difference. I mean, such a difference that you can easily end up with something which won't stick on the wall. You also need to produce something similar to what you are trying to match on the walls. For a non-plasterer, a pre-mixed bag is the ideal solution.

The local builders yard has got some 'conservation plaster' in. It is designed to allow water evaporation. Anyone used this and is it any good?

Sounds a bit of a meaningless marketing description to me allowing them to up the price :lol: To be fair it is probably a fine grade of whatever aggregate is in it and if you want a single bag of fine readymix it might just fit the bill

Ask them what the setting material is - lime or gypsum
If not in an air and water sealed bag then ask how long it has been sitting there

Mike - you are right that chalk plaster is good stuff but if I remember rightly then Lost GardensOf is in Yorkshire so sand will have been used originally and like for like is best

I buy NHL3.5 from Travis Perkins as and when I need it - any excess I store in the big plastic tubs with the lock down lids, so it stays dry and safe for my next odd little job, saves binning half a bag each time!

I mix up using 1 NHL : 1 yellow Builders Sand : 2 plastering Sand - matches well to what little of the original currently remains. Sticks well to the wall, provides a decent finish etc - hopefully that might be some help!
