Best colour for period front door

Hi, I'm thinking of painting my original victorian front door black? is this a good colour and also does anyone know a good gloss black to use?

Sikkens AZ Rubbol is an excellent gloss.

Beware of applying it in damp, autumn weather, as the drying time will be extended.

Btw, I wouldn't paint your door black if it faces south, it will get too hot and the joints will crack.
