I just had to post this as it made me smile. We have a roofer working on our Welsh cottage and he sent me a couple of progress pictures last night. I realise now why I love old houses...
I've got bent floor joists but they're not that bendy We puzzled a bit about them when we lifted the floor. Were the joists all twisted when laid and it didn't matter? Were they intentionally bent for some reason - we couldn't see or think of one?
The house isn't that far out of square.
We have a some bent joists, though nothing like the above photo, but then the whole timber-framed part of our house has developed a distinct lean at some point in its history.
The joists in the above photo (and AMc's floor to some extent) look completely at odds with the seemingly still fairly square building itself. Perhaps they were reclaimed from somewhere else?
